Monroe Kurtis Hilton Birth

I have made a goal that I am going to start blogging now that we have Roe. I want to be able to document important and fun things that happen with him. He sure kept us on pins and needles waiting for him to get here but he wanted to take his sweet time! I feel like this is going to be my hardest post! there's so much that I want/could say about his birth experience. I thought it might be best to do a bulleted list of the important things to remember.

  • Born Jan 3, 2013
  • He was 8lbs 4oz and 21 inches long
  • My original due date was Dec, 28th so he was 6 LONG days late
  • I was induced
  • My doctor wasn't able to deliver me because she had just had a baby(she was due the same time as me!!) I did end up really liking the doctor she set me up with.
  • We went to the hospital that morning not totally sure whether or not we would be induced. It was pretty much our decision. He was showing no signs of coming on his own so we decided to go ahead with the induction.
  • They induced me around 9:00 a.m. and I had him just before midnight!
  • I had an epidural when I was dilated to about a 4. I really don't know how women do it without!
  • My sister came early in the morning to visit us because she was in the hospital getting some tests done herself.
  • I had a total of 4 nurses throughout the day. The hospital wasn't very busy so they kept calling nurses off. My favorite nurse was our first. Her name was Hafsa and she was originally from Africa.
  • The contractions were the worst part of the whole delivery. I thought I would be scared about the epidural but that was nothing!
  • I pushed for a little over an hour
  • My sisters, mom and mother-in-law all came in the room right before I delivered him and waited until I had him. I really loved having them there. I hope to have them come with my next deliveries.
  • He came out so wide-eyed/alert and didn't cry at all! I thought for sure he would have my squinty little eyes…but the first thing I noticed on him were his huge blue eyes just staring up at me!
  • The NICU had to come and clean out his lungs because he had stuff in them. This scared me because I didn't know if there was anything wrong with him.
  • My father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law also came in after he was born. It was fun to have everyone there.
I feel like I could probably go more in depth about my whole birth experience but these are the important things I want to remember. Since I have had him I have often reflected back to this day and wish that I could freeze this time. My sisters told me how cool of an experience it is but you don't really realize it until after it has happened to you. I wish I could go back and really soak it all in because I think I was too worried about what would happen next rather than just being in the moment. It really is a beautiful thing and something I look forward to with my next children because I now know that after that moment it's craziness from there! My next post will be on my hospital stay and visitors!
